The announcement of the market’s construction sparked excitement among traders, who envisioned a secure, shop-like structure to store their valuable goods. However, upon visiting the site, they were surprised to find a park-like setup with individual open spaces for displaying products.
Iya Alia, a trader, shared her disappointment: “We thought it would be a secure shop, but it’s just an open space like a car park.” Mummy Bola echoed this frustration: “We were told to vacate our spaces in January for the construction, but it’s still not complete. I’m glad I didn’t move, or I’d have nowhere to sell my goods now.”
Another trader raised concerns about the safety of their goods: “When it rains, we scramble to find shelter for our products. We hope the government will consider our needs and provide a proper market structure.”
Despite these challenges, the traders remain hopeful that the government will fulfill its promise and create a suitable market space for them to thrive.
